22Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?” 23Jesus replied, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.
25All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.
27Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid. 28You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. 29And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe. (John 14:15-29 BSB)
Brothers and sisters, I know that there is a lot going on in the world today that is strange and frightening. As followers of Jesus, however, let me encourage you that, while we remain vigilant and make informed decisions, we also do not give in to the fear that is manufactured for us to consume. Tell me, what are earth, literally – what on earth – are you afraid of if you truly believe that God is sovereign and that your salvation is the cornerstone of your existence?
Go ahead follower of Christ, tell me. Tell me that what Jesus preaches is not to be believed when He tells us this in John chapter 16, “31“Do you finally believe?” Jesus replied. 32“Look, an hour is coming and has already come when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and you will leave Me all alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!”
